Firing Services in Blenheim, Marlborough

Non-Member Kiln Firing

Made something at home that needs firing? You don’t need to be a Pottery Embassy member to use our kilns.

Our non-member firing service is available for potters and makers who have their own clay and glazes but need somewhere to fire their work.

We bisque fire at 1000 degrees centigrade and glaze at 1200 degrees centigrade.

Before You Bring Your Work In

We need to know exactly what clay and glaze you have used, including their recommended firing temperatures. Please bring the original packaging or a clear photo of the product label.

Unfortunately, we can’t fire unidentified clay or glazes. We also don't fire terracotta, black clay and wild clay due to lower firing temperature. This is important for protecting your work, other makers’ pieces and our kiln.

Greenware must be completely dry before drop-off.

For glaze firings, the bottom of your piece must be completely free from glaze, with enough clearance around the base to prevent glaze from running onto the kiln shelf.

Firing Timeframes

Please allow around 2 months for your pieces to be fired and ready for collection.

We fire pieces as space becomes available and group work together according to firing requirements. During particularly busy periods, turnaround may be longer than 2 months.

If you need your work by a particular date, please speak with us before dropping it off, as we can’t guarantee specific firing dates.

A Little Kiln Disclaimer

Ceramics can be unpredictable, and every firing carries some risk. Cracking, warping, glaze running, colour variations and other unexpected results can occur during firing.

We’ll take care when handling and firing your pieces, but Pottery Embassy can’t guarantee the outcome of work made outside the studio.

Any damage caused to the kiln, kiln shelves or other equipment due to incorrectly identified or unsuitable clay, glaze or materials may be charged to the owner of the work.

Made by you. Fired by us.
