Get muddy, get creative & make something together

Spend some quality time together at the pottery wheel and discover the fun of creating with clay.

Our Kids & Parents Pottery Wheel Experience is a playful, hands-on session designed for one child and one grown-up to experience the pottery wheel together.

You don’t need to know anything about pottery before you arrive. We’ll guide you through the basics, help you get comfortable at the wheel, and then give you plenty of opportunity to experiment.

It’s not about making the perfect pot. It’s about trying something new, sharing a few laughs and seeing what happens when you put your hands to clay.

Best suited for children aged 6+ with a parent or caregiver.

Your Experience

Your session runs for approximately 1.5 hours and is designed for two people — one child and one parent or caregiver.

We’ll start with a simple demonstration and introduce you to the pottery wheel, including how to centre and begin shaping the clay.

Then it’s your turn.

You’ll each be given three portions of clay, giving you three opportunities to have a go at the wheel, practise what you’ve learned and create something uniquely yours.

Don’t worry if your first pot is a little wonky — that’s part of learning! With each turn you’ll get a better feel for how the clay moves beneath your hands.

At the end of the session, you’ll each choose your favourite piece to be fired.

What You’ll Learn

During your time at the studio, you’ll:

  • Learn the basics of using a pottery wheel

  • Discover how to centre and shape clay

  • Have three opportunities each to create on the wheel

  • Receive friendly, hands-on guidance along the way

  • Choose your favourite creation to keep

  • Enjoy a relaxed and creative experience together

No previous pottery experience is needed.

Your Finished Pottery

Once you’ve finished creating, the difficult part is choosing your favourite!

One piece per person is included for firing, so both the child and adult can choose their best creation.

We’ll take care of your chosen pieces after the session, carefully drying and firing them in our kiln.

Pottery takes time to dry and go through the firing process, so your pieces won’t be ready to take home on the day. We’ll let you know when they’re ready to collect from Pottery Embassy.

What’s Included

The price covers two people — one child + one parent/caregiver.

Your experience includes:

  • 1.5-hour pottery wheel session

  • Three portions of clay per person

  • Pottery wheel and studio tools

  • Guidance throughout the session

  • Firing of one chosen piece per person

  • All necessary pottery materials

Good to Know

This experience is best suited for children aged 6 years and over.

Children must participate with a parent or caregiver — this is an experience for you to enjoy together, rather than an adult simply watching.

Please wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting a little clay on. Pottery is wonderfully messy!

We keep our sessions small and relaxed so everyone gets plenty of time at the wheel and individual guidance.

More Than Just Making a Pot

Sometimes the best moments are the simple ones — slowing down, getting your hands messy and creating something side by side.

At Pottery Embassy, we want children to have the freedom to experiment and discover what they can make, while giving parents and caregivers an opportunity to share in that creativity too.

You might arrive hoping to make the perfect pot.

You may leave loving the slightly wonky one instead.

Either way, you’ll have created something together — and that’s the best part.
