Pottery Embassy is looking to connect with experienced and passionate ceramicists interested in providing pottery tuition and workshops on an independent contractor basis.

We’re currently particularly interested in tutors who may be available to run weekday evening classes and Saturday afternoon sessions, with other opportunities potentially available depending on studio schedules, class demand and your availability.

If you love working with clay, enjoy sharing your knowledge and get a kick out of helping others discover pottery, we’d love to hear from you.

Who We’re Looking For

We’d love to hear from experienced ceramicists with a strong practical understanding of clay who are confident sharing their skills with others.

Practical ceramics experience, technical knowledge and a genuine enthusiasm for helping others learn are important to us.

Previous teaching or tutoring experience is helpful, but not necessarily required.

Ideally, you’ll be able to:

• Demonstrate strong practical knowledge of working with clay

• Confidently demonstrate wheel-throwing and/or hand-building techniques

• Explain techniques clearly and in an approachable way

• Adapt your tuition to different learning styles and experience levels

• Create a welcoming, encouraging and inclusive learning environment

• Communicate confidently with students and Pottery Embassy

• Help students set realistic goals and develop their skills at their own pace

• Guide students through drying, trimming, glazing and firing timelines

• Introduce different techniques, projects and creative ideas

• Work safely and responsibly within a shared pottery studio

• Leave teaching and studio areas clean, organised and ready for the next session

• Encourage students to experiment while developing strong ceramic foundations

About the Teaching Opportunities

Pottery Embassy classes are designed to give students an understanding of the ceramic process from clay through to finished work.

Beginner classes focus on developing strong foundations, including clay preparation, wheel throwing and/or hand-building, trimming, surface decoration, glazing and good studio practices.

As students become more experienced, tutors may help them refine their techniques, explore more challenging forms and begin developing their own projects and creative direction.

Our approach is hands-on, supportive and practical. We want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, experimenting and enjoying the process of learning pottery.

While Pottery Embassy provides the studio environment and overall class offering, we value the individual experience, knowledge and teaching style that each ceramicist brings to their sessions.

Contractor Opportunities & Availability

These opportunities are offered on an independent contractor basis rather than as employment positions.

We are particularly interested in hearing from ceramicists who may be available for:

Weekday evenings
Saturday afternoons

Sessions will be arranged depending on class demand, studio availability and the contractor’s availability.

Opportunities may include:

• Beginner wheel-throwing courses

• Hand-building classes

• One-off pottery workshops

• Private lessons

• Private group sessions

• Specialty workshops

• Intermediate and developing-potter classes

The frequency and type of sessions offered may vary, and contractors can discuss individual opportunities with Pottery Embassy as they arise.

Contractors will be responsible for managing their own tax and other obligations associated with providing services as an independent contractor.

Specific session rates, responsibilities, studio use and other contractor arrangements will be discussed and agreed before teaching services commence.
