Curious about pottery but not quite ready to commit to a six-week course?
Friday Night Pottery is your no-strings-attached introduction to the pottery wheel — one relaxed Friday evening, plenty of clay, a few goes at throwing and absolutely no experience required.
Bring a friend, make it a date night or come along on your own. We’ll guide you through the basics of wheel throwing while you get messy, have a laugh and discover just how addictive spinning clay can be.
Wonky pots aren’t just accepted — they’re expected.
Friday Night Details
Time: 1-3pm
Date: October 31
Day: Saturday. That’s it.
Experience: Complete beginners welcome.
Age: Adults only (13+).
Vibe: Relaxed, social and beginner-friendly, with plenty of guidance.
BYO: You’re welcome to bring your favourite drinks and snacks.
What You’ll Do
We’ll start with a demonstration covering the basics of throwing on the pottery wheel, with guidance tailored to that evening’s project.
Then it’s your turn.
You’ll have your own pottery wheel for the evening and approximately three goes at throwing while we help you through centering, opening and shaping your clay.
Some pots will work.
Some won’t.
That’s half the fun.
At the end of the night, choose your one favourite piece and leave the rest to us.

Want to keep another successful pot? Additional pieces can be finished and fired for $10 each.
What to Wear & Expect
Wear comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting clay on and covered, non-slip shoes. Bring an apron if you’d like.
Short fingernails are highly recommended, and removing rings, bracelets and other jewellery will make throwing much easier.
This is a fun introduction to wheel throwing, so we keep things simple. Advanced techniques such as trimming, handles, carving and decorative glazing aren’t included.
Your first pots might wobble, lean, collapse or turn into something completely different from what you imagined.
That’s pottery — and part of the fun.
A Little Studio Care
Before we finish, everyone spends a few minutes cleaning their wheel, tools, splash pan, stool and workspace.
Cleaning clay while it’s wet helps keep our shared studio clean, safe and low in clay dust.
Your Finished Pottery
Choose your favourite piece at the end of the evening and we’ll take it from there.
We’ll carefully dry your pottery, bisque fire it, apply a clear glaze and complete the final glaze firing.
Finished pottery generally takes 6–8 weeks. Clay needs to dry naturally before firing, so the process can’t be rushed.
We’ll message you as soon as your pottery is ready for collection.
Pottery is naturally unpredictable, particularly when you’re learning. Wonky rims, wobbly pots and unexpected results are all part of working with clay.
Come ready to get messy, have a laugh and give the wheel a go.

Pottery is a wonderfully rewarding craft, but it can also be unpredictable. By choosing to work with clay, you’re stepping into a creative process full of variables, many of which are beyond my control.
I want to be upfront: I cannot guarantee that your piece will return to you exactly as you left it. I handle every piece with care and treat your work as if it were my own. However, in ceramics, things do go wrong; pieces can crack, glazes may run, items can warp or even explode in the kiln. Sometimes your creation won’t turn out the way you imagined, and that’s part of the process too.
By choosing to book this workshop, you acknowledge and accept these risks as part of the learning experience. I do not offer refunds, credits, or replacements for any pieces that are damaged, or don’t make it through the drying and firing process.If any issues arise, I’ll keep you informed by email and share photos where possible.
What I can promise is a welcoming and encouraging environment where you can explore, create, and have fun. This is your opportunity to connect with clay, embrace the unexpected, and enjoy the unique experience of making something by hand.
